In her turn on the silver screen as leading lady in Storm Saulter’s film “Better Mus’ Come”, model-turned-actress Nicole ‘Sky’ Grey showed Jamaica and the rest of the world that her talents extended well beyond the runway. She quickly followed up her film debut with a lead role in Andrew Dosunmu’s movie“Restless City”, and now has her sights on launching her career as a recording artiste with her new single “Lollipop”.
“Restless City”, which oddly doesn’t have a trailer online, premiered at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and has been described by film critic Duane Byrge of The Hollywood Reporter as an “intense twist on the American Dream”, in which director Andrew Dosunmu “vividly captures the pulsating dynamic of New York city’s pan-African community, a robust aggregation that subsists amid an often hostile foreign environment.” Byrge made special mention of Grey’s performance, describing her portrayal of the co-dependent prostitute Trini as “a perfect mix of moxie and vulnerability”. The movie is scheduled to have its New York premiere on May 29 at the New York African Film Festival.
With her screen credits and modelling credentials in tact, all that’s left to solidify the triple threat status of the young Jamaican starlet is success in the music world. It’s early days yet, but look out for the single “Lollipop” and the accompanying video, which will be premiered during Caribbean Fashion Week 2011 (June 8 – 13).
