Ahead of Nicki Minaj’s highly anticipated performance on International Night 2 (Saturday, July 23) at the 2011 installment of Reggae Sumfest, fans of the Trinidad-born American rapper have been rocking assorted neon-coloured wigs and outlandish outfits in a quest to become the ultimate Minaj look-alike and win the opportunity to meet the celebrated artist in person at the music festival in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay, St. James.
CVM-TV recently wrapped its competition, with Deja Campbell from Ewarton, St. Catherine taking the prize for her spot-on imitation and impersonation of Nicki Minaj. The judges were Dexter “3D” Pottinger, D’Angel and John Gordon.
KFC is also staging its own Nicki Minaj look-alike competition via Facebook, and Red Stripe Bold is also encouraging its Facebook fans to show their bold moment impersonations of Nicki Minaj, R. Kelly and dancehall acts Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Spice, Mavado and Vybz Kartel.
In addition to Minaj, the International Night 2 line-up for Reggae Sumfest will feature Jah Cure, Wayne Wonder, Gyptian, Protoje, Chalice, Hezron and Cherine Anderson. Dancehall night on July 21 will feature an impressive roster of the island’s top talents, while the International Night 2 line-up on July 22 will include American R&B singer R. Kelly, the legendary Beres Hammond, Tanya Stephens, Christopher Martin, Half Pint, Richie Loops, Paul Elliott and Iba Mahr.
