Celebrated champagne Armand de Brignac (Brut Gold) was recently launched at Bin 26 Wine Bar at Devon House. The event attracted an exclusive mix of wine connoisseurs, corporate types, bon vivants and socialites who were eager to sip and savour the taste of high-end luxury and prestige from the gilded bottle of the Cattier-produced cuvée, which also goes by the popular sobriquet “Ace of Spades”.

Very little was known about this champagne until 2006, when Jay-Z’s music video for “Show Me What You Got” depicted the hip-hop heavyweight waving off a bottle of Cristal and opting for a “gold bottle of that Ace of Spades”. This was enough to propel the brand out of obscurity and spark suggestions of possible business ties with Jay-Z.

Armand de Brignac (Ace Of Spades)

Armand de Brignac/Ace of Spades has been enjoying great press lately. Mark Cuban, the billionaire owner of the 2011 NBA Champions Dallas Mavericks, shelled out $90000 on a 15 liter bottle (20 regular sized bottles) of the champagne to celebrate the victory last month. Not to be outdone, NHL Champions Boston Bruins celebrated their title by purchasing a 30-litre bottle of Armand de Brignac – dubbed the “Midas” – for $100,000. And just because he could, a high-rolling American gambler by the name of Don Johnson reportedly spent £120,000 on a bottle of Armand de Brignac Midas champagne at the One For One nightclub in London late last month.

FINE Champagne Magazine declared Armand de Brignac the world’s best champagne in 2010 after a rigorous taste test of over 1,000 brands. It is distributed locally by Betco Premier Limited, with a bottle retailing for upwards of J$45,000.

“We witnessed in our glasses a fine, smooth, and creamy Champagne with underlying power and great mineral freshness. Classic, restrained, and energetic in style, it has everything a truly great Champagne can offer. Its accentuated fruit-forwardness is what makes it so irresistibly palatable today. Armand de Brignac’s flashy golden bottle is eye-catching in the true meaning of the expression. It is always rewarding when the content of the bottle matches its price and reputation. We were thrilled that the Champagne, appreciated by the rich and famous…delivered so perfectly on the connoisseurs’ collective palate.” – FINE Champagne Magazine
