For art lovers, and even persons with a passing interest in art, the exhibition of the works of Barrington Watson by the National Gallery of Jamaica (NGJ) offers an experience that is at once engaging, provocative and delightful. The first of the NGJ’s calendar of events commemorating the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence, the exhibition titled “Barrington: A Retrospective” features more than 250 paintings, drawings and original prints of the master painter.

Launched on January 8, a day before Watson’s 80th birthday, the exhibition is considered among the most ambitious ever staged by the NGJ. The core exhibition takes place at the NGJ itself, with two annex exhibitions at the Bank of Jamaica and the Olympia International Art Centre. “Barrington: A Retrospective” charts the stylistic and thematic development of Watson and will run until April 14.
