Trinidadian pop artiste Shazelle Gobin recently completed the video for her second single “State of Emergency”, which features Beenie Man, the self-styled “King of the Dancehall”. This is a follow-up to her first single, “If We Fell In Love”, which received over 25,000 views on YouTube in just one month. The latest single is not her first collabo with Beenie Man, as she previously recorded the track “I Need Love” with the international dancehall star.

Discovered by music executive Ivan Berry (tanjola/IB Entertainment/Sony BMG/ Ole/BeatFactory), this young Trinidad beauty from Chaguanas is embarking on a path to international stardom. As the opening act for international Pop/R&B star Massari in 2009 and 2010, Shazelle travelled to countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain and Australia, where thousands of people connected with her high energy performance and glamorous, sultry style. She has also performed in Romania, where she shared the stage with Andreea Balan, one of Romania’s biggest artistes of all time.

“It’s been a whirlwind of excitement…and I’ve been blessed to connect with new fans all over the world,” says Shazelle. “These experiences are definitely going to be reflected in the new music that I’m working on.”

Berry, who currently manages Shazelle, points out that tanjola has committed to a strategy focussed on discovering Caribbean talent, developing them domestically, and then breaking them internationally.

“Countless artists from the Caribbean have been overlooked for decades because people see the region as being limited to soca and reggae music. tanjola will prove that the Caribbean is an untapped source of superstars-in-waiting, and Shazelle is our first jewel in the crown. The world is about to see what it’s been missing,” says Berry.

Shazelle is currently working with a team of award-winning songwriters and producers, and performing around the world. Thus far, Shazelle has been collaborating with globally successful producers and songwriters such as Damon Elliott (Pink, Kelly Roland, Keshia Cole, Destiny’s Child etc.), Rupert Gayle (Keshia Chante, Shiloh), Rob Wells (Justin Bieber, Backstreet Boys), Alex Greggs of South Rakkas Crew (produced, written and remixed for international stars including NSYNC, Britney Spears, Pink, Shakira, Brandy, Michael Jackson, and Shakira); Keo (Keo, Andreea Balan and many others from Romania), Justin Forsley (produced for Shiloh) and Derek Brin (Jaheim, Kelly Price and Ginuwine).

Shazelle’s musical influences are broad and include Katy Perry, Metallica, Sarah MacLachlan, Nadia Ali, Shabba Ranks, Destra and Kool & The Gang. Her diverse tastes are reflected in her songs. Outside of the entertainment industry, Shazelle is passionate about helping children and providing for the homeless, and she is dedicated to using her influence to bring attention and resources towards these causes.

“I want to be more than an entertainer,” says Shazelle. “I want to leave my own mark on the world and make a real difference in people’s lives.”
