The large crowd gathered inside the Blue Mountain Suite of the Knutsford Court Hotel on the evening of November 28 watched in rapt attention as renowned Japanese Sogetsu artist Tetsunori Kawana masterfully arranged flowers and plants into beautiful creations during his demonstration of the exquisite traditional Japanese art of Ikebana. The occasion was the staging of the Ikebana Floral Extravaganza, the latest in a series of events that seek to strengthen cultural exchanges between Jamaica and Japan.

Organised by the Embassy of Japan in Kingston and the Japan Foundation, in partnership with Ikebana International (St. Andrew 156), the show blossomed under the unofficial theme of “Flowers and Friendship”.  Mr. Kawana, who  has over 30 years of experience  in his craft, delivered a clinical and creative demonstration that resonated with the audience. He was assisted by Dr. Pauline Milbourn, President of the St. Andrew Chapter of Ikebana International, as well as other members.
