Elements of traditional and contemporary Korean culture were on show at the reception/cultural evening staged by the Korean Embassy in Kingston at the recently opened Arirang Korean Restaurant at Seventh Avenue Plaza on September 9, 2013. The event, which served as a forum for local K-Lovers – fans of Korean culture, featured Korean cuisine, a karaoke contest, anime-style character drawing, and at least one person attired in a hanbok (traditional Korean dress).

Jamaica has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Korea since 1962, and under programmes supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), over 100 Jamaicans have benefited from training in the far east Asian country. As part of its ongoing cultural outreach, the Korean Embassy will be staging the Korean Film Festival at Palace Cineplex in St Andrew from September 30 to October 3, and at Palace Multiplex in St James from October 7-8. The two Korean films that will be featured are “A Barefoot Dream” and “Woochi the Demon Slayer”.
